Virtue Is Not a Matter of Smacking It Down

Virtue is not a matter of suppressing, simply suppressing or eliminating passion. If I don't have certain kinds of feelings when I'm faced with virtue or vice, I'm not virtuous,. So Aristotle and Aquinas both say, no one is just who does not rejoice in just deeds. The goal there is for reason to persuade the passions, to order the passions. It's a healthy political rule where reason as leader persuades the passions. This is the good. If you love this, your desire will be more fulfilled in this than it is in vice.
