The Orientalizing Style Matters
Artistic motifs, alphabets and mythological figures weren't just floating around the sea lanes of the Mediterranean waiting for people to grab them. The decisions to adopt a new artistic motif or purchase an item made somewhere else were all rooted in actual human interactions between individuals and groups that actually happened. Different groups around the Mediterranean partook of these innovations in different ways and to varying degrees.
