Croley left trinity college in 18 98. His first poem was published that same year, titled acodema - a place to bury strangers in. On november 20, sixth, 18 98, crowley was initiated into the hermetic order of the golden dawn. It had been established ten years earlier by william wynn wescott and samuel adel mac gregor mathers. This one of several hermetic orders that traced their teachings back to writings attributed to hermes trismegistus. In addition to its greek and egyptian influences, it drew on christian mysticism, cabala and paganism as well as hinduism
