Greg Bear: Sanctions don't necessarily kill people in the same way that bombs and bullets do. He says they can have roughly the same consequences over a longer period of time by limiting or preventing access to medicine. Bear: They can subvert the well-being of an entire economy, which is often explicitly articulated in these terms. The sanctions against Syria predate even 2011 when the US launched this regime change war on Syria.
