In 168 BC, the new consul for the year was Amelia's Paulus. He announced his intention to make for the Macedonian army and defeat them. Perseus was well positioned with 40,000 troops on the Aegean coast. 12,000 Greeks were sent down to block the Romans coming up now from the south. But they were driven back in disarray.
