What Is Admiralty Law?

Admiralty law is a branch of english law. It involves legal practices at sea. In the colonies, some colonies, there are vice admiralty courts. They have a regulatory aspect. They kind of regulate life at sea. And you see this analogy of enslaved people to maritime cargo. I encounter enslaved black mariners, but also free black people who often wish push back against their designation as property in court. So one of the things that really fascinates me about these records is you get a chance to see istance mneralized and heard it described before others.
