Sulla and the Oracle of Traphonius
Sulla had a friend consult the oracle of Traphonius for him. The news was good, he prophesied yet another grand victory for Sulla to take place somewhere nearby. He digs two great trenches in such a way as to force the Pontians to go around and advance through the marshes to trip up their cavalry. But whether or not he meant this to happen, the digging has the effect of once again provoking the Pontians into an engagement that they're not totally ready for.
