Event modeling came about as a name for what seemed to be working in the industry. It's almost like you stumbled into it, discovered it, then decided to name it and it seems kind of similar to JSON which was there until somebody said, hey, look at this thing I found in JavaScript calledJSON and it's like we're already doing it but let's formalize it and let's name it. So far no one's really suggested any other names and most people recognize the practice by this name now.
