The politics of Ramadan in the Middle East has been tied to political movements and political intensification. Part of that is because if people are more focused on God, it will focus the mind. It'll also perhaps introduce a fearlessness where you might have otherwise been afraid of being arrested for participating in a protest. But I do wonder about like scaling up fasting. And in some ways, this is already happening in America through intermittent fasting which bears some resemblance to Ramadan.
