What's the Difference Between a Habit, a Routine and an Addiction?

A routine is often going to be a chain of different things like putting on your gym clothes and then, you know, getting to the gym. We usually think of habits as more sort of smaller, like atomic pieces of behavior. Addictions are kind of like the hijacking of the habit system by these unnaturally strong stimuli that the modern world gives us. A few people really feel like they need to go for a run or need to go to the gym, but not in the same way someone who's addicted to a drug feels the need to get that drug.
