In the 18 nineties a brazil had set itself up as a sort of fragile republic. There was a religious, fanatical leader who was going around gathering followers in the backlands of northeastern bBrazil. The army had to go in and raise this group to the ground not once, but three or four times. It's rumored that some of the women who survived were taken to brothels in a save de baa. This is one of the most fascinating events in latin american history.
