The Story of Bridget Cleary

In the late 19th century, a board of guardians in Ireland was tasked with dispensing public aid. One way they did that was by building laborer cottages to provide housing for rural agricultural workers. The family who were awarded the cottage moved in but there was a problem. It seems that the house had been built on a wrath, a low earthen ring. While archaeologists know them to simply be remnants of an iron age fort, some of the Irish still thought of them as fairy rings and portals into another realm.
