The Bronze Age Collapse
There was a major collapse of the more complex societies towards the end of the second millennium. The world of Mycenaean Greece, which is a bronze age society, collapsed somewhere around 1100 or just before. And there are other comparable collapses of complex palace organized societies around the Near East. Do we know why? I think it's one of the big problems.
