The Kamikaze first reared their ugly head or terrifying head, however, you want to look at it. In October 1944 in the Philippines during the Battle of the Late Gulf, there were several instances previous to that of Japanese suicide pilots crashing their aircraft USS Hornet being one CV-8 into American ships. This became a tactic and a weapon after 1944 when you get around Okinawa. That's not the only thing that's coming at you, but that's the primary Japanese air offensive that’s coming at you either Kamikaze or aircraft that are at least flanking with Kamikaze.
