The Market Economy Is Too Shortsighted
In the pursuit of efficiency it's actually left to the system a lot less resilient. A few people do a little bit better as a result, but our society does a lot worse. Even though we expend more on healthcare than any other country per capita for all that money we prided ourselves on not having any spare capacity in our hospitals. And that means when we have a crisis like this, we are in a much worse position than other countries.
