John Cage was one of the first people in America, post-war, to really take on the Buddhist life. He worked with a composer called John Cage who was as an Buddhist and been as an Buddhist for many years. So I've had this connection through people like him, through the arts, with Buddhism. And at the founder of the Western Buddhist order, Sango Ed Sheeter, he too was a poet. To be both a Buddhist practitioner and a practicing artist.
