The US has long maintained its position of strategic ambiguity there, but President Biden has certainly indicated that the US would back Taiwan with military support if necessary. Do you take a similar approach to China? Let's say you're President of the United States and you get that 3am call telling you that Chinese forces have started to attack Taiwan - what would your response be? I think we should be deescalating that the Chinese don't want to war with us. The last thing they want is to fight World War three.
