There are two big traditional approaches to exclusivism. The first one, you can call it sort of a church exclusivism. That view says that in order to be saved, you have to be part of a visible church. And the Catholic Church largely espoused that view until the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. But there could be people who are included, even though they don't have what the exclusivist says is required.
