Erlang - Application?

Erlang has a different naming convention than Python or Ruby. The word application is used to refer to libraries and other applications that depend on each other. So it's even more confusing because you actually have to start your own app before the others. And then I feel like that the most important part for me is to realize that sure I use service a specific way, but that’s not always what a service will do in another kind of project A service may mean something else.
