The discovery of the germ theory of disease and the invention of vaccines was arguably one of the most significant developments in all of human technology. The likelihood that you will lose one of your children today, at least in a developed nation like ours, is about one in 100,000. There's no other way to suppress epidemics. And so that was an immense step forward for humanity. But there could be room for somebody, for example, who can show with a reasonable degree of certainty or likelihood that they're going to have a really negative reaction to that vaccine," he says.
