Small Town Murder

00:00

The Life and Times of Sherman McCray

The Los Angeles Times describes the family here from 1972. The men aimlessly wandered the American Southwest scratching for jobs as ranch hands, carneys and fry cooks. Women worked honky tonk carnivals too or hustle jobs as waitresses and sad little cafes. Sherman McCraery, 47 drank a quart of liquor a day. He once said he had a bad heart and a bad back and began a string of robberies in Texas because he was out of work. That's some Nelson Algren level shit right there.
