In 2002, 2003 there was a similar sort of mass rush to basically industrial scale automation into solid state screening of pharmaceuticals. You can see that exact same analogy applying here where one would hope that the NSF or some equivalent government agency is applying billion plus dollars of funding to effectively encourage roboticists and metalurgists to take on more complex chemicals.
