Beth has to find another way to feel that she's connecting with people because they leave her. She hasn't really got any warmth or affection within the orphanage. There's a psychotherapeutic theory called attachment theory, which I think is really relevant with Beth's case. If you're securely attached to your caregiver, then you have a reliable prediction that if you get upset, they will soothe you. And it's called avoidant attachments. But Beth seems to be very clearly showing avoidant attachment and thinks, if I get upset, not only will I not be soothed, but I may actually be blamed for that. So I'm just going to become self
