Boredom and Negative Outcomes

Boredom is not the cause of pathological behavior. Research suggests chronic boredom is a symptom of low levels of dopamine activity, along with risk-taking and sensation-seeking in an attempt to alleviate boredom. There's even research indicating that many people who experience psychosis come off their medication because the thrill of psychosis is preferable to the boredom that comes with being medicated.
