Vampire bats are the only mammals on earth to feed exclusively on blood. They have lost a jean called r e p 15 which seems to have allowed them to excrete more iron, so that they don't get overloaded with it when gorging on all that blood. Their relative dietary iron intake is 800 times greater than ours. The loss of this gean could explain their relatively sophisticated social and cognitive skills. When one misses out on a blood meal, they're quite social an and share in it, and almost altruistically share their blood, don't they? Yes. So because blood has so few calories, they're at risk of starvation. It's really important to stick together
