By 1900, Candler was one of the richest men in Atlanta. He called it controversy when people called on that cocaine was in Coca-Cola. Cocaine wasn't actually illegal in the United States until 1914. By 1903, public opinion had turned against this because people were addicted to things like morphine and cocaine. All the cocaine was removed from the product in 1903. However, cocaine wouldn't be cocaine free for another 30 years. It's almost universally agreed that it did.
