Herbert Raymond McMaster was briefly America's 26th national security adviser under President Donald Trump. He served in leading roles in the First Gulf War and then in what was named Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a veteran of an expert in war, that is methodical killing or conflict, he has spent decades patrolling moral as well as national boundaries.
