The Indo-European Languages
Modern Latin, Celtic and Germanic languages among many others are called Indo-European languages. The language of the Hittites demonstrates Indo-European characteristics that are different from neighbouring Semitic languages at the same time period around 3,500 years ago. This suggests an origin dating back before this time. Another ancient culture who spoke an Indo-European language were the Medes who alongside the Babylonians were responsible for the end of the Assyrian Empire as described in a previous episode.
