Carbon is just such a good element for not just bonding with itself and bonding with other elements. It's also really good at forming molecules that occupy that nice sweet spot of you can be large and stable but not so stable that you can't be replicated or metabolized. So water and carbon based life, it's a pretty darn good solution to use the word solution appropriately.
