Rick Oro: Hedging is stipally seng as a thing that protects producers from a a collapse in the price of the commodity. But i've been going through some balance sheets of gas and coal companies, and they have billion dollar losses capital b in their hedging costs because the price has gone up so much. As an example, i myself have tried to hedge my own equity's portfolios by going short indexes and stuff like that. I would have been better off concentrating on buying better stocks and holding them for the long term.
