Quantitative typing is the exact opposite of quantitative easing. The Fed was creating money out of thin air and using that money to purchase US Treasuries, therefore increasing the amount of liquidity in the economy. But starting in 2022, that actually went into reverse. So instead of creating money outof thin air and buying Treasuries,. as these Treasuries mature, the Fed is receiving its principal back.
