In World War II, paratroopers had to find a field and get down if they were off target. The glider pilots were more loosely assigned in the sense of "get down, find the nearest command post" Sometimes it might be a day or two before they actually found their units. Some guys would take anti air sickness pill and maybe two and then does off because it made them too drowsy.
