What Is National Insurance?

National insurance is tax that everyone earning more than about ten thousand pounds a year pays on their earnings above that level. It goes into the same pot as every other tax, but unlike something i can come taxes, only a tax on earnings. Historically, as in, 70 years ago, it used to be something that was there to pay directly for,. particularly pensions, but also some other kinds of benefits.
