i think that it's tricky because, on the one hand, the timing does link up to the great awokening. But at the same time, i think what's interesting is you also see significant l g b t identity amongst groups that you wouldn't assume r is affected by the great awokenings. I would argue that there's been a sort of outgrowth from a transgressive modernist culture that emphasizes novelty and difference rather than sameness. And daniel bell, the new york intellectual, very much pioneered the study of cultural modernism,. which is, instead of reproducing tradition, your ante tradition, you want o shock.
