How Do You Think of Christmas in the United States?

i did not realize how much of an influence washington irving had on christmas in the us. Irving writes the stuff that starts popularizing it more in north america. And then like that, loops back over to charles dickens who re incorporated some of the same ideas into his own writing a year later. How people think of christmas as a celebration? That's er, you know, something i had seen little headlines of articles floating around, and had not really looked into.
