The Different Regions of the Electronic Spectrum
Many of the most dangerous forms of gamma x-rays and ultraviolet radiation are blocked by the upper atmosphere. The Earth's atmosphere also blocks out longwave radio waves and most of the infrared spectrum. If not, I don't think humans would be able to survive on the surface of the Earth because we'd be bombarded by high levels of cosmic radiation for an extra solar origin.
