The Story of Catherine Ettos

Catherine Ettos was a storyteller who travelled the country with her partner Thomas Conway. The pair made their money selling stories of crime and punishment in pamphlets. They were known for spinning up unique tales, which they would then sell themselves. Catherine had 11 siblings but moved from Wolverhampton to London as a child. Her aunt found her romantically involved with an Irishman on an army pension - so she turned her out. She went back to Birmingham where she worked as a tin plate polisher. But like many other itinerant storytellers, he was the self-published author of his day. He turned every life experience into something worth selling.
