Angular Momentum

spin is just a property that we call spin because it has something to do with angular momentum. So when studying the hydrogen atom using quantum mechanics, you see that there are different states that the electron can take and these states are discrete. Even in the ground state, there are two different possible orientations, quote unquote, and this is what the spin is. You can have up spin or down spin. This is called intrinsic angular momentum because it's actually a property of the particle and not something external. And I'm not even going to talk about why it's half integer and integer. That's a little too complicated.
