The Soyuz's X-Ray Spectroscopy System
Most missions that are flying out to places in the outer solar system or even exploring the surface of planets, like they need to have a power source and some way to do spectroscopy. But curiosity has a laser to zap rocks. And but there have been x-ray spectroscopy experiments on various missions as well. It it sounds like this really starts to come into play when you're farther away from the sun where you are in more and more darkness.
