The Atomic Theory of Democritus
In the atomic theory of Democritus, we have the idea of atoms as indivisible. Different forms of matter are simply different arrangements of atoms or different shapes that exist in different positions in space. These are all constructed of atoms and when bodies perish, the atoms in them disassemble. But the atoms themselves are not created or destroyed. And furthermore, DemocritUS sees atoms as moving entirely in accord with laws governing weight. They don't undergo direct contact and action at a distance does not occur.
