The Nightingale's Nest

Clarence's sense of who he was began to disintegrate after the death of his publisher. He thought that keats was pretentious, I don't think he used that word. Clare did admire keats, actually, but he did say that he described things as they appeared to his fancies and not as though he'd seen them from self. But keats, unfortunate ly died before claire's best poetry got going. One of his best poems is this poem, the nightingale's nest. And it's such wonderful poem, and so different from keats's wonderful ode. Partly what makes clare's poem so special is the kind of informality,
