Napoleon's Crossing the Alps
The most iconic image of Napoleon is painter Jacques-Louis David's depiction of this fabled crossing. The names in the foreground were put there purposefully to put Napoleon in the pantheon of great conquerors who had also dared to cross Europe's most formidable mountain range. Most historians believe this plebiscite was completely rigged, but still some debate on how rigged it was.
