After six days at sea, the boat managed to reach the eastern shore of the Red Sea. Ibn Batuta had struck up a friendship with the local ruler of the area and he would thus spend several days as the man's guest. Aden is one of the most important ports along the trade route between east and west. He then decided to head to Africa, staying with the rich merchant family in Nuhn-Yammin.
