4,000 troops died in that battle. 4,000 Union troops. Many of them were Confederate, sorry, were USCT troops who actually tried to do what they'd been trained to do. White Richmond retreated behind shutters and blinds, but black Richmond spontaneously took to the streets. I think that's one of the happiest moments in the whole war story. There's a lot of heroism in the history of the USCT, but not a lot of happy moments that last.
