The Ugly Buildings of Early 20th Century England

Photographs of early 20th century England don't show evidence of buildings that people consider to be ugly. In some cases, there are entire areas in which all buildings have largely remained intact for over a century. There may be nostalgia at play, but I think that's probably not the whole story. Cost could be a factor, but modern people are a lot wealthier than they were in the past. And perhaps it's just that the aesthetic we find somehow universally pleasing is so ingrained that only when something really different or modern does it stray from that.
