"I think as children, we get told to hush. Your father's busy. I'm cooking dinner," says the poet. "And from these repeated hushes, we learn that any expression of self is going to be scolded", he adds. The idea that a benevolent universe could pay attention to us without hurting us and judge us was an impulse which set him in motion on writing. He reads two poems created out of a sense of profound happiness.
