Is There a Future for Mathematics?
Much of pure mathematics looks like speculation. Yet it will have applications some day when our understanding of the universe improves. If we had a the same attitude, then what would have happened to ramanujin? Ramanujin wasn't pure mathematics for a hundred years and almost his equations had no applications in the real world. So i agree that pure mathematics should not be funded. I think it is very important. Mathematics is always at least a century ahead, typically, of physics. if you stop funding mathematics in the future, physics won't progress.
