How Jim Jones Changed the Temple
The gang of eight were bombarded with untraceable threatening phone calls. Notes made out of chopped newspaper lettering were sent to them. Obituaries were written in newspapers under their names. Rented hearsers were left idle in front of their homes. These actions were enough to keep the defectors silent. After the gang of eight left, life changed in people's temple. Jones said, my love isn't working. I guess I'll have to start getting hard on people. They seemed to respond to it better.
