Introduction

Rep. Katie Porter announced a candidacy for the seat in the United States Senate from California that comes up for election in 2024. Adam Schiff, who led the first impeachment trial of Donald Trump, announced that he too was throwing his hat in the ring. The thing that makes these announcements interesting is that the seat isn't actually vacant yet. It still belongs to Diane Feinstein, who's been under pressure to retire for a few years now.
