The abolitionist movement was a movement against slavery, and to say that slavery was wrong. But alongside that was also this movement that was about racially-quality and civil rights. And it's worth asking how did we get from race-based slavery to some kind of consensus that racial discrimination is wrong? That was not the direction that most white people were going.
